Mr. Tharpe’s words: “Since I’m on my last mile, I would like to experience some of the historical sites that I taught my students about for years. If it’s possible to ask my students, athletes and community to sponsor a pilgrimage to see the Liberty Bell, the route of Sherman’s March to the Sea and the signing of the Constitution!”
“On my last mile" carries a weight of inevitability, as it is known that Mr. Tharpe has been in the late stages of cancer. We are thus faced with a sense of urgency to help him seize the opportunity to experience these historical sites firsthand – we will be targeting a late summer or fall excursion. Mr. Tharpe's call to enlist the support of his students, athletes, community and family is a testament to the bonds he has forged and the impact he has had on us all.
In honor of his legacy and Black History Month, let’s turn Mr. Tharpe’s dream into a reality! Together, we can make a meaningful difference in giving our beloved teacher, mentor, coach, pastor, family and friend the experience of a lifetime. The funds raised through this campaign will cover travel expenses, i.e. transportation, lodging, meals, guided tours, mobility assistance and other associated costs for Mr. and his wife, Joy, to safely navigate and explore these historically significant locations, in addition to other locales, insofar as funding will allow. Let's come together to honor Mr. Tharpe’s dedication and commitment to our community. Click on this link to see some wonderful memories with Mr. Tharpe! https://photos.app.goo.gl/2S3ZQoWzyuHjJizDA
