Help Samuel complete his dream workshop
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Samuel Oates, I am 12 years old and have aspergers. I don't see this completely as a negative thing, because without it I wouldn't be able to do the things I do. Yes it limits me in areas of social interaction, and not being interested in things that most boys are interested in, like sport for example. But God has given me the unique ability to be able to understand things that many adults do not understand. Also, I recently became a Christian, and God has greatly helped me to overcome many of the negative aspects of autism.
I love sciencey things, especially electronics and computers, and used to love chemistry, reading textbooks and doing many experiments. One day I am hoping to raise enough money to complete my workshop, so I can design and build the many electronic devices that currently are in my head.
I am very thankful to everyone who has donated to my fund, and have read my story. My dad and I have built the main structure and are 3/4 way through fitting out the interior. We can't finish it off yet, as I've run out of donation money. I am working two paper rounds per week to help pay for some of the remaining things. For example, I've bought an inverter, a solar charge controller, 1 of 2 deep cycle batteries. But i still need other electronics to complete the power system, which will be completely off grid..i also need lighting, speakers, as well as other electronic devices, including a 3D printer that I'm planning to use to make the bodies of the devices i am hopingto buildon my workshop. My main goal in making and selling these devices, is to hopefully make enough money in years to come to buy my parents and siblings (4) a house. Thanks again for reading my story.
A word from Samuel's Dad. Because of Samuel's aspergers, he is a genius in certain fields and has a great gift for remembering details that most people would forget in minutes. . Samuel started soldering his own circuit boards at 8 or 9 years old, and around a year ago, he started doing Arduino programming. He also started designing his own encryption for a radio transmitter that he wants to put in his workshop one day. He loves using Blender, as well as designing things on FreeCAD. So all up, Samuel is quite gifted and he has a lot of potential, which I hope one day will be recognised and harnessed. Thank you for taking the time to read Samuel's story. And thank you so much for all of you who have donated money. We really appreciate it.
Our original goal was 2k, but we quickly realised it would cost more than that. It is currently set to 3.5k, If we need more funds, we will raise our goal.
Thanks for taking the time to read Samuel's story.
