Sams' Salivary Surgery
Donation protected
Sam knew she should have health insurance but couldn’t find any affordable options that provided more than catastrophic care. And she did not qualify for Obamacare or Medicaid. Faced with what was essentially a choice between insurance and food, she opted for food and hoped for the best. It was just bad luck that Sam was diagnosed with 7-10 stones in her salivary glands. She waited months to visit a doctor and only went because it became too painful to eat and she had lost a lot of weight. On the first visit to her doctor he instructed her to go home and suck on a lemon! As you can imagine, that did not work at all. After two years of doctor visits, a collection of misdiagnoses and growing bulge on her neck she finally found an ENT who listened.
Doctors informed Sam that she would require surgery at the earliest as she was suffering with pain, weight loss, inability to eat and infection. Surgery also meant a risk of facial paralysis and nerve damage. Sam’s condition was getting worse day by day and she had to move forward with the surgery at a cost of $22,000.00, not including pre and post op care.
It was at that point I realized she needed help from our community…
I have heard stories of Go Fund Me pages helping people with extreme need of financial help. Sam tried all possible ways to arrange the money required for the surgery but the amount is beyond her reach.
Your gift is her only ray of hope and only your kind support can help this young woman avoid financial ruin and bankruptcy. Won’t you please donate today?
50 percent of all Americans between 18 and 24 spent part of 2016 uninsured, yet this age group rarely appears in the national healthcare debate. They may be young and fairly likely to stay healthy, but one poorly timed illness or accident can cripple them financially before they’ve had the chance to establish themselves. It’s a harrowing but familiar scenario to many, including my friend Sam.
