Dear family and friends,

When one morning my friend came to me and asked, ¨Sam, do you want to go to Cambodia to teach English?¨ my very first reaction was ¨When?¨ – frankly, I couldn’t think of any reason to say no. As I learned more about the trip, the circumstances seemed to favor this initial excitement and attractiveness, and I found signs that made my yes more reasonable.

This summer, I’ll be travelling to Cambodia with six other volunteers to teach English in a small, rural school in Kampong Cham founded by Fr. Alberto Caccaro. Fr. Alberto is a PIME Missionary (see more about the PIME Missionaries here). He has been living in Cambodia since 2004 and has since then established four schools in the region. I’ve attached a couple of articles that give an idea of the story of the schools and the educational project in Cambodia.

Most of our month’s time will be spent teaching English to the high schoolers in Kampong Cham. We’ll also get to spend time with the students outside of class, visit different schools in the region and see sights on the weekends together.

I am writing to share with you my journey to Cambodia this summer and to ask for your collaboration. I am raising money to offset travel costs, contribute to the Cathedral that’s hosting us and hopefully contribute to the school’s needs as well. Any contribution big or small would be greatly appreciated.
