My name is Sam. I’m a 26yo trans man from the Gold Coast, Australia. I'm an ESL teacher, handmade soapmaker, and retail worker. I’ve been transitioning for a while, 2 and a half years on testosterone, legally changed my name. I’ve been saving up for top-surgery, but it’s a pretty expensive procedure, so I’m asking for some support from family, friends and the community. Basically, in December my health insurance hits 12 months so I will finally be eligible for it to cover part of the costs of my top-surgery. I will be going to Valley Plastic Surgery in Brisbane, but probably won’t get a surgery date until early 2022.

So you know what the funds are going towards, here’s a quick breakdown/estimate of the medical expenses. I will have more information about the exact cost, and how much my insurance will cover, after the first consultation in November/December.

• Consultation - $225

• Hospital fees - $2,000

• Anaesthetist fees - $2,200

• Surgery fees - $7,500-8,000

• Post-surgery garments - $240-280
