Sam's Hero Arm Fund

Hi I'm Sam Davis, I'm 6 years old and I was born with severe symbrachydactyly on my left arm, this is a congenital hand anomaly in which I'm missing my fingers and have a smaller fist.

I did have little skin tags where my fingers would be but I used to bite them in frustration when I was younger, so I had surgery at 3 years old to have them removed, now it's much better.

Over the years I've overcome many things that people and doctors thought I'd struggle with like crawling, climbing and riding a bike, but I'm constantly learning to adapt and figure out how to do things.

At 2 years old my mum found Open Bionics with the Hero Arm online and have been following them ever since. In May 2023 they held a planned Open Day in Birmingham that we went to and I got to try a Hero Arm. It was amazing and I love it. II managed to get it to do all the movements, mum and dad knew then that this is what I needed.

Unfortunately it cost money and they haven't got a lot of money so we've decided to fund raise for me to get it. We're going to be doing many things over the coming months to try and fund it, as my arms are a little short for it at the minute but it gives us a year to raise it and as a family we are determined to do it.

Getting a Hero Arm will mean the world to me, to be able to do things that I can't do now that are simple to others like cutting paper or doing a zip up or maybe even a button. I would even like to try and push my brother's on the swing and play catch with them as they've helped me so much to do things and learn things. I'm really excited and happy to try and get this.

Mum tells me not to say I'm different because everyone is but I feel different and other children have said this to me, upsetting me, I'm hoping this will help me do things others can do and to feel better, I've already had counselling, I've been to seacroft hospital in Leeds and got a Lego hand for my bike but it's uncomfortable and hurts my arm. I'm hoping people will consider donating whether it's £1 or £100 to help me achieve my goal over the next year.

We are raising money through The Open Bionics Foundation and every donation will help Sam get his Hero Arm and any extra money raised will go towards extra insurance for the Hero Arm and accessories like differents covers/batteries etc. Thank you in advance for your contribution to our cause that means so much.
