Sam's Fight Against Leukemia
Donation protected
Hi,
Many of you know that our nephew Samuel and his wife Caresse were married in August of 2021. One year later, in September 2022, Sam was diagnosed with Acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL). Sam has spent the last seven months in and out of the hospital undergoing chemotherapy treatments. As newlyweds, Sam and Caresse had to make some difficult decisions regarding the future of their family given the devastating effects of the treatments he was receiving. Caresse continues to work full-time as a nurse while also traveling in and out of Boston most days to be with Sam. There have been many ups and downs as Sam continued to battle the painful side effects of bone marrow biopsies, lumbar punctures and chemotherapy treatments. We all celebrated the four times he made it into remission only to be devastated by the painful days and weeks of relapse that followed. During one of his recent relapses, Sam's bloodwork showed that his leukemia changed lineage and is now a more aggressive form, Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). It is unclear what his treatment options are at this point. Because of the aggressive nature of this disease, Sam has been out of work since September. Fortunately, Sam and Caresse have a lot of family support and have been able to keep up with their bills. Unfortunately, with this type of treatment and so many hospitalizations, the medical bills are growing and becoming insurmountable. We are raising money for Sam and Caresse to cover the medical bills and other growing expenses so they can focus on spending quality time together.
We will send updates as we get them.
Thank you all very much!
