Sam Laubscher's beloved one year old cat, Stevie, was rushed to the vet ER Wednesday evening: she has a bacterial infection that has infected her lungs.

Stevie is young and feisty, and she needs to be in the ICU for a few days to see if she is able to fight off the infection with the help of around the clock medical care. As you can imagine, the situation is tenuous and this level of care is expensive. The bill is nearly $3000 for the overnight care she received, and the ICU bill is already projected at near $5000. Stevie will also need a surgery for temporary chest tubes to help continually drain her lungs while she is in the ICU on antibiotics.

Sam loves Stevie deeply, after having rescued her from a sewer outside their house last summer when she was only 4 weeks old. Sam nursed her to health and they are inseparable.
