Sam's accessibility and medical expenses

Hi all,

My name is Verenice and my friend Miranda and I are fundraising for our friend Sam Brooker. Sam is a promising student at UB who is looking forward to graduating with her Bachelor's in May and begin her Ph.D journey Fall 2023. Sam is a chronically ill patient who has been hospitalized many times over the past 10 years for complications of primarily Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a connective tissue disorder, and superior mesenteric artery syndrome. In September 2022, she underwent a planned Roux-en-Y procedure. She has been in the hospital since September and has lost mobility due to complications of her Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome resulting in the development of a neurological movement disorder causing her to lose her ability to walk or use her arms. She is currently working very hard to regain functional movement but will need to rely on a wheelchair for mobility. Sam is unable to go home until her home is modified to fit her mobility needs so we are asking for donations to be put toward modifying her home and ongoing medical expenses.
