Hello everyone!
I am at the last term of George Washington University School of Nursing and I need your help! This term, GWU is partnering with OmniMed for a service learning opportunity in Uganda. This will count towards credit for my Community/Public Health clinical hours. Our projects will be centered around hypertension prevention and youth education initiatives in the district of Mukono, Uganda.
Because nursing school has a workload that is rigorous, I am unable to work for the duration of my studies. I wanted to ask my community if folks can pitch in to help me raise funds to cover the cost of this service learning trip (which encompasses round-trip airfare, OmniMed Program Fee, travel insurance, and the visa fee).
I have a passion for service, especially for those who don't have access to the same quality of care that we have in the US. Seizing this opportunity to learn more about health issues unique to our service site and creating projects that promote positive, sustainable change in collaboration with local leaders is exactly the type of work experience I am interested in getting involved with! (in the long term I hope to become a capable nurse and commit time out each year to work for the Mercy Ship....but that is so far into the future:)
I am willing to answer any questions anyone has! And I will be documenting our travels with lessons learned on social media. Big thank you in advance!!
