Sampson S. Sprague

Friends and Family, I am Kathy Betcher’s best friend, Tracey, and friend of Chris Sprague. We are creating a space where you may donate money towards memorials for Sam and to assist with any additional costs that may arise. Memorial ideas include a tree an plaque at Camden 2 disc golf course, a rock garden at Camden Park, and trees located in various special places.

Sam loved tennis, Legos, Pokemon and playing Minecraft (he and his dad spent countless hours building their Minecraft Realm). He enjoyed reading Rick Riordan books, and writing about the characterization of Greek gods as well as various dragon types. He loved his dog Duke, his kittens Moose and Scout, and pretty much all animals. He was an avid observer of nature—pointing out the moon, colors of sunsets, trees. He played trombone in band and jazz band and was an honors student at John Deere Middle School. Always social, he loved being with friends and family, volunteering, and didn’t mind being dragged to meetings, art openings and galleries with his mom. He enjoyed rock hounding, Texas hold’em poker and playing D&D with his dad. He also loved watching YouTube videos of guys playing video games, which is kind of a mystery to his parents. He was a genuine, special soul giving in life and continuing to give to others after his death, possibly helping 200 others by being a tissue donor. Wise beyond his years, he said many memorable quotes, like when he was seven, “Just because I’m scared, doesn’t mean I don’t want to do it.”

We are grateful that Sam touched so many lives in his short time here. Thank you for spreading his joy and love to all.
