Hey Everyone,
I'd like you to meet Sammy if you haven't already. He's a good dog. The Best as far as I'm concerned. The most beautiful GSD I've ever seen. Good with the kids. Great in the home protection front because he's big and loud and overbearing like they all are, and he's the biggest sweetheart you've ever seen. He runs around like a crazy person for a pat on the head and to be told he's a good boy and will maul you just to lick your face with kisses. A giant puppy with a huge heart. His favorite thing is to run up and down the fence barking at the neighbor's dogs causing as big a scene as possible. Drama queen LOL.
Sammy has a problem, and I'm asking for help. Yesterday afternoon Sam was bit by a snake. The vet thinks it was a copperhead, but I didn't see it, so there's no way to be sure. Rush him to the emergency vet because our family vet "has no appointments". They find the punctures and the necrosis. Bit in the balls. Poor Sammy must have hiked a leg and peed right on it. Typical Sammy. The vet ran bloodwork and found the venom reaction in his blood, and Sammy's been there all night with IVs to try and save him. The vet came to me with an estimate of $3000 dollars. I've got that covered between what we have in savings and a line of credit $3000 hurts but it's doable. Then the vet lays on me that Sammy will more than likely require surgery this morning and the price will double when that happens. There's no way we can afford that. Not if we want the roof to stay over our kids' heads. I want to be mad. I want to scream and cry and beg to our elected officials to do something about the exhorbitant costs of an emergency vet, but as I mellow I realize that won't do anything to change the fact that Sammy could die without their help and nothing I do will change that.
Which leads me here. I'm proud. I don't like asking for help, but I am. Sammy is 2 and a half and the biggest doofus in the world. He deserves better and he doesn't deserve to die because he peed on a snake. We don't even live in the woods. We're in a subdivision and he was in my back yard. Please consider helping me afford this surgery. Even if you don't or can't contribute share this where you can, please. That will help too. Thank you for reading this.
