Hello everyone,
Back in February I injured myself playing rugby. At the time I thought it was completely fine but a few scans and a couple months later it turned out I had ruptured my Anterior Cruciate Ligament and damaged my Meniscus: both crucial parts to the knee. After a doctor's consultation it became clear that I need an operation and also that, due to Covid-19, I could have been waiting up to 2 years to get the surgery done on the NHS. I have always lived an active lifestyle and as an ambitious Rugby player, not being able to play for the 6-9 months recovery time after surgery on top of potentially 2 years on a waiting list seems like forever and would be extremely detrimental to both my development as a Rugby player and the quality of my life in general. With this in mind my parents and I decided to go have the operation done privately to massively reduce the time in which I'd be waiting and just this week we've been told that I can go on for surgery on the 24th of July however it will cost in excess of £4000. While my mom intends to use some of her pension to cover the costs, we will struggle to afford the procedure and so we're trying to raise roughly half of the full price.
I would be immensely grateful for any amount anybody can contribute as it would allow me to live out my life in the most normal way possible post Covid-19 and continue to pursue high level Rugby.
Thank you,
Sammy Smith
