Samia Noël’s Medical Cost

Hello!

My name is Jasmine Moore, wife and mother of two girls. Our 11 month old daughter, Samia Noël fell ill very suddenly on 1/12/22 - the day after we received information that she was directly exposed to a COVID positive staff at her day care.

Wednesday afternoon, she woke up from a nap and coughed once, and immediately projectile vomited. In the middle of changing her clothes, she closed her eyes and went to sleep. I laid her down and before I could cover her with a blanket, she again projectile vomited. This went on for 25 minutes- and she started to pass out in between each time she vomited. I called her Pediatrician and while on the phone, Samia passed out. She was unresponsive.

I called 911, they arrived within 5 minutes and transported us to the emergency room. Once there, she continued to vomit and pass out. She was given nausea medication and it helped for a short period of time. The doctor ordered an ultrasound of her belly, it showed she had pockets of fluid in her intestines and stomach, consistent with a virus. She was COVID tested. She was able to keep the Pedialyte down, so we were discharged.

Thursday morning, after she drank her bottle, she vomited again. We realized that had not urinated either and it had been several hours, almost 12. My Husband called the Pediatrician and we were given a specific plan, syringe feed a teaspoon of milk to Samia every 5 minutes for an hour. The goal was to get her to keep the milk down AND urinate. Neither happened, so we were told to take her back to the ER. Throughout all of this, Samia continued to be very lethargic- no energy and not herself.

My Husband and I took Samia back to the ER. She had to get an IV for fluids and they ran test on her blood. The results showed she was severely dehydrated and had low blood sugar. She was admitted after 3 hours because she still had not urinated- at this point it was about 18 hours. The Doctors became concerned that her kidneys were not functioning properly and at 100%. The Rotavirus test results are still pending.

We are asking for help to off set the cost of the medical expenses that this illness has caused our baby. Samia does not have Medicaid- and our private insurance does not cover the cost of the ambulance services ($250). Since it is the beginning of the year, the deductible has not been met either. With her insurance, ER visit co-pays are $100 each time. The Doctors bill is separate from the hospital bill and her insurance doesn’t cover all of it.

Coming to this place of asking for help is extremely humbling AND hard. If you feel led, please help our family. We would appreciate anything from $1.
If you’re not able to help, that is understanding- please pray for our little girl.

Thank you,

Lucius, Jasmine, Elani & Samia.
