On November 21st, 2022, our dearly beloved Sami Ahmad Yousuf of the Atlanta and Dallas Harari community passed away at the tender age of 45. He was a husband, brother, uncle, nephew, friend, and most importantly a loving man always rushing to extend a helping hand to those in need. Anyone who has met him would attest to his soft nature. He was a gentle giant hungry for religious and spiritual development, never have spoken ill nor mistreated anyone, always greeting you with an illuminating smile, always fair and compassionate, and anyone who met him would struggle to find someone close in character and integrity like him.

Today, Sami's Tafakkur Jama'ah of Atlanta (pictured below) is collaborating hand-in-hand with his family in Dallas to establish a Sadaqul Jaariyah (Perpetual Charity) in Sami's name, so that Sami can receive the ajr (good deeds) of those who benefit from these amenities until the end of times.

We have decided to establish two Perpetual Charities in Sami's name: a public water well in an impoverished region of Ethiopia, and an orphanage. We have chosen to build a well due to the Hadith of our Beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ wherein he was told, “O Messenger of God, my mother has died. Should I give charity on her behalf?” The Prophet ﷺ said, “Yes.” It was replied, “Which charity is best?” The Prophet ﷺ said, “A drink of water." (Sunan An-Nasa'i)

Due to our beloved Sami having been an orphan, it was a no-brainer to support the orphans of Harar pursuing an education, healthcare services, vocational work, lodging and worship.

Not only will Sami benefit from these charities until the end of times, but if you donate with the pure intention for the sake of Allah and His Prophet ﷺ, then you too would benefit from this initiative until the end of times. That is why we are not asking for a minimum contribution, but rather whatever you can from your heart. Charity does not diminish wealth, so we would appreciate any help in serving the underserved, just as Sami used to do in this life. May God grant him the highest station of Paradise (Ameen).
