Help Sam Fight ALS

Sam Harper is just 29 years old.  In June, he married his best friend and soul mate, Ashley.  Less than 2 months later, their dreams were shattered when doctors diagnosed him with ALS. Sam and Ashley need your help.  ALS is a devastating disease. It robs a person of the ability to walk, write, speak and breathe. It’s fatal, but there are many promising treatments throughout the US and the world.  The couple is trying to raise the funds to provide Sam with the medical care he desperately needs. Medication costs are mounting and treatment is expensive.  Any donation is appreciated.  Thank you so much for your loving generosity.

From Ashley…
In less than a month I’ve gone from newlywed to caregiver—and I will do anything to save my husband.

On August 11th, 2015, after being married just 6 weeks, Sam was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.  The doctors tell us it is fatal and kills most of its victims in less than 3 years.

ALS - Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.  Those are big, loud words that scream hurry, time is running out. They are abusive, destructive words that tear me apart every hour of every day with worry and confusion.

But more importantly, they are fighting words. And Sam and I are ready to fight.  There is no cure and the battle against ALS is fraught with stumbling blocks.

The only FDA-approved form of treatment is Rilutek, a pill that may extend Sam’s life a mere 3 months with high risk for liver disease and other nasty side effects. The average annual cost for families with one victim of ALS is $63,692.

Conventional medicine says that Sam should simply accept his death sentence. We can’t. We have to do something and that’s why we need your help.

New ways of treating ALS offer some hope of halting the progress of the disease in Sam’s body. We are currently looking into alternative treatments ranging from the use of a hyperbaric chamber to stem cell therapy.

ALS has no known cause or cure and there is no way of knowing if or when Sam’s health will decline.

Despite atrophy in his right hand, weakness in both arms, an inability to button his shirts and difficulty picking up heavy items, along with fatigue in both legs, Sam continues to work full time as an assistant store manager of a grocery store.

We are desperate for support while his ALS is in the early stages. We must act quickly.

We so appreciated your love and encouragement when we got married. We now ask for your continued financial and emotional support of our relationship during this, the most strenuous time of our lives.

Please keep us in your prayers.
