I came to live in the U.S. almost 10 years ago. I always had good health benefits with my job. Until last year, when I lost my job at the bank.
Being a single mum, with no family in this country, has certainly been a challenge but, while I was employed, it was manageable, for the most part.
Since losing my job, one year ago, I literally had to start again.
My ex-husband lost his job and simply stopped paying child support for a year.
Upon discovering this, I immediately looked at changing my living arrangements in order to save money. I went from living alone with my son, in a two bedroomed apartment, to rooming with a good friend and sharing a bedroom with my son.
After that, I qualified for 'low income' housing, where we live, currently. Nothing fancy but we have a roof over our heads and I am so thankful for that.
One thing I have not been able to secure is health benefits.
As my fellow Americans are well aware, health care & dental care can be insanely expensive, even with the best of insurance policies.
For a while now, I've known I need to have 4 crowns, 1-2 root canals and an extraction. I had no choice, financially, but to keep putting it off.
However, recently, I've been suffering excruciating tooth pain and, after doing very thorough research and visiting many locations, I have found the best possible price available to me. This is still so far out of my budget, I have no way to afford the treatment. This has been a very trying time, emotionally and physically.
I have not set up this campaign asking for the full cost of the dental work I need because some of it can wait!
While I do need all of the work I mentioned in the previous paragraph, my immediate need is this:
2 crowns and a root canal.
The total cost of this is $2300.
If any of my friends or family are in a position to help and wish to donate, I would be overwhelmingly grateful.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, it is much appreciated.
Samantha.
