He’s an actor, a voice actor, a director, a producer, a lover of creators of art, a mentor to so many, and a warm and generous human being. He has given much so much to those around him, and now it’s time for those who surround him to support him back.

Sam A. Mowry has faced a fair number of challenges… anyone in the performing arts certainly knows about these, and he’s handled them well, as any professional would. But his latest challenge is beyond the reach of Sam and his loving wife Cindy McGean. Sam is suffering from a case of diabetes that has gotten away from him. He had to have major foot surgery recently. The good news is he’s keeping the foot, but as part of his recovery he cannot walk on it for several months while the healing continues. He is relegated to a motorized wheelchair for the foreseeable future.

For those who know Sam and Cindy well, their hundred year old house has a marvelous collection of theater memorabilia and artifacts, with lots of nooks and crannies filled with two lifetimes of collected, cherished furnishings. The path to his recording studio outside the house is also full of twists and turns across a lawn that is sometimes difficult to negotiate on foot. These are critical hurdles for a motorized wheelchair.

The nooks and crannies and twists and turns have had to be evened out for Sam’s ease of travel around home and to his main location of work and income. Storage pods have been filled and sent away with “another day” items. Ramps are being constructed and hundreds of square feet of pavers are being installed between the street, the new driveway, and paths to his studio, the house, and their much loved outdoor relaxation area, the “Casbah”. Much remodeling has been and will be done to the kitchen and shower and main bathroom. The costs have been carefully monitored but are still staggering.

Until now they’ve made life work financially. Cindy is a grade school teacher and her salary under normal circumstances is workable. Sam? Well he’s a very admired voice actor these days but as we know it’s feast or famine in the arts and his health has added a layer of unpredictability to that source of income. The lockdown of course has been a strain.

For those who love and admire Sam and Cindy, and what they’ve done with and for friends and the performing arts community, we ask that you help now, however you can. So many have provided physical moving help and basic remodeling labor — Thank You! — but the trades need to be brought in to finish the work.

Please consider a financial contribution to these two who have brought so much to our lives, in this, their special time of need.
