Sam Torres - family relief fund

Sadly, family, friends, and co-workers lost a true man of integrity this week. Sam Torres passed away September 1, 2020 after a battle with cancer.
Sam was a man committed to his family and his work, period. It was what mattered most to him. Survived by six children (Youngest 17 years old) and his wife Ana of 25 years.
Fortunately, a visit to Sam Monday was made possible by his beautiful family. Testimony and stories from his children during that visit exemplified his relentless pursuit and selflessness in always putting them first in his life. Weekly meals with his parents were not uncommon.
Spending most of his life working in Salinas Valley agriculture, Sam was a valued and committed employee previously for Sam Mckinsey Farms and Ag Services Co. Most recently he joined P&C Farms. His hard work and dedication was significant in the enormous workload involved with a true “start up” farming company in this day and age.
Sam was one of those men that you want the younger generation to learn from and emulate. Honesty, loving his family dearly, hard working, always positive and optimistic, and a never quit attitude are just some of the ways to describe Sam Torres. One of the best examples worth noting in describing Sam’s character occurred one morning on the ranch at work. While working on opposite sides of a weeding crew, Sam and I noticed a confrontation within the crew. I called Sam and we discussed what we might be witnessing from a distance. Immediately we realized a man out of control intoxicated on drugs was getting physical with a woman in the crew. We raced to the crew from from different directions. Sam arrived ahead of me and I witnessed him approach the man who had a knife at the woman’s throat. The man punched Sam in the face and then Sam stood there not phased as if to say, “you can punch me all you want, but I’m not leaving until you let her go”. The man did let her go. Fortunately she wasn’t harmed and the man was arrested. There were several other men in the crew that left the area. Sam didn’t leave; he raced towards the area and may have saved her life.
So many are devastated by the loss of this great man. He will be missed dearly, but never forgotten. Our hearts go out to the Torres Family. With so many generous people offering to help Sam’s family any way possible, we have set up this fundraising effort to financially assist with immediate and future needs.
May you Rest In Peace Sam. You have touched so many people throughout your life. You will be missed.
