On September 19, my father, Sam, had a massive heart attack. He was intubated and put on ECMO and Impella to pump his blood and save his life. By God's grace, he was only on the machines for 24 hours...a small miracle for the severity of his heart attack.

Since then, he has been making steady progress. Walking, eating solid foods, and, most importantly, making silly jokes with family, friends, and the nursing staff. We are so thankful to have him still with us!

My family and I have been helping with meals and housework this past week, but we are returning home to California and there is still a long road ahead.

Many of you have been asking how you can help, and my parents greatly appreciate all the support. Because of the unique health and allergy needs of my parents, they would prefer donations or Hy-Vee gift cards instead of meals. Donations will also help with medical costs, loss of income from the time off work, and housekeeping expenses while Dad recovers as my mother will be busy with his care.
