Sam Needs a New Heart

Donation protected
It’s that time. Sam Hiscoe-one of the kindest, most uplifting, loving, compassionate, funny, positive and caring guys you will ever meet, needs a new heart. And getting a new heart is very expensive!
As you may know, Sam’s older brother Chris passed away suddenly from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy at the age of 14. It was found after that Sam too, suffers from the progressive condition, HCM. This condition has led to atrial fibrillation and Sam's biggest struggle currently- advanced heart failure. Sam’s heart has been struggling more in the last 2 years after the hit it took in Florida, but even more in the last two months. The amazing team at Beth Israel Lahey Hospital has done a fantastic job trying to manage this, and has carried Sam to this point. All options have been exhausted and a transplant is the next step. Sam is currently admitted in Tuft’s Medical Center receiving an expedited transplant evaluation. This is the start to a very long road. There will be many, many pre operative and post operative appointments. The overall stay in Boston could range from weeks to months. His wife Micayla hasn’t left his side since the day they met. She will be staying right there every second of this journey. They will be faced with lodging expenses, medical bills, living expenses in Boston, all while keeping their home in Houlton afloat. Sam has also asked for a new pair of crocs or a new cowboy hat, because he loves nothing more than wearing them around the hospital and making his wife’s skin crawl. If you know Sam, you know he would give a stranger the shirt off his back. It’s been pointed out that he is the only patient to ever say “thank you” to the nurse after she pokes him to draw blood every 3 hours.

Above all, Sam, his wife, and family are profoundly grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and encouragement they’ve received. If you are able to help by donating, it is so greatly appreciated, if all you are able to do is send the family a prayer and a text message, that is more than enough and appreciated beyond measure as well!
