In Memoriam of Sam (McCarthy) Berry

Fighting over Amercian girl dolls, sleepovers at Grammy + Papa's, whispering about our first crushes, conspiring against our brothers, and giggling till our bellies ached. Those are just a few of my core memories growing up with my first best friend, Sam (McCarthy) Berry. Although back then, we called her "Sammy".

My name is Janna Dodd, and Sam was my cousin. I watched her grow from a spunky little girl, into a fierce teenager, and transition into being the best mama anyone could ask for. We mourned the loss of her parents together in 2011 + 2012, and celebrated the births of her babies in 2013 + 2014.

On November 26th, 2022, Sam tragically passed away from complications with a ruptured stomach ulcer, leaving her children Lucy (9) and Josh (8) motherless at a very young age.

Knowing Sam meant knowing joy, loyalty, comedy and a whole lot of sparkle. There was no such thing as a stranger to her, no bias or judgment, and no mountain she wouldn't climb to support a friend in need. As a beloved friend and family member to all of us, it's our turn to support her and her children moving forward.

At the age of only 34, there were no funds set aside for death arrangements, as no one should be planning for their funeral so young. The purpose of this fundraiser is to cover the costs associated with her Celebration of Life and raise money for Lucy and Josh for education expenses and day-to-day needs.
