How do you go from being extremely active----water skiing, snow skiing, keeping up with 10 and 13-year old grandchildren along with running a landscaping business to being in ICU since August of 2021?
Sam was not feeling well, fever, throwing up and labored breathing. Six days later, he was rushed to the Emergency Room after finally getting a positive Covid test (took two prior that were negative), and his oxygen levels dropped to 70. His family could not be by his side as doctors made life decisions for him and decided to put him on a ventilator after two days of being admitted. Since then, Sam has been on his back and to several hospitals. The moment they lifted the isolation period, His wife, Donna Nettles Johnson, has been by his side every day, researching every move the rotating doctors see as "protocol" . A lot of his care right now results from "Protocol" mandated by the CDC.
It is now March 1, and our goal is to bring him home! The hospital team believes that going home to heal is his best option. Our current obstacle is funding the nursing staff that will be needed for the next few months as Donna will be trained on how to take care of him. He will need 24-hour care, dialysis three times a week (which is not covered by insurance and alone costs $2000 a week), bed sores that need care and tube feeding. Sam wants to come home so he can see his family that he has not seen since being in ICU. He has two precious grandchildren that do not understand why they can not go to the hospital and siblings that live on the west coast. The ICU will only allow one person to see him a day, and Donna has been there every day with him.
We would be so grateful if you can find it in your heart to give for his homecoming. We are standing on The Word of God and have not taken our eyes off God's promises.
In closing we leave you with the promises Sam has been standing on and reads daily...........
Psalm 91 -----I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust with great confidence, and on whom I rely. For He will save you from the trap of the fowler, and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you and completely protect you with His pinions, And under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and a wall. You will not be afraid of the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor of the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor of the sudden death that lays waste at noon. A thousand will fall at your side and ten thousand at your right hand, but danger will not come near you. You will only be a spectator as you look on with your eyes and witness the divine repayment of the wicked as you watch safely from the shelter of the most high because you have made the Lord your refuge. “Because you have made the Lord, [who is] my refuge, Even the Most High, your dwelling place, No evil will befall you, Nor will any plague come near your tent. For He will command His angels in regard to you, To protect and defend and guard you in all your ways [of obedience and service]. They will lift you up in their hands, So that you do not [even] strike your foot against a stone. You will tread upon the lion and cobra; The young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot. “Because he set his love on Me, therefore I will save him; I will set him [securely] on high, because he knows My name [he confidently trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never abandon him, no, never]. He will call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. With a long life I will satisfy him And I will let him see My salvation.
