The Haben Family Journey

Sam Haben Family and Friends,

Life does not always provide us with the journeys we expect or often hope for. As many of you know, Sam went through a crazy journey about 5 years ago. He was diagnosed with lukemia, but he battled and was victorious in the end... or at least we thought he was.

Sam recently started feeling off, which prompted him to get tested. The test returned positive for leukemia... it was a significant blow and detour to a beautiful family. Sam recently started treatment to beat Leukemia for a second time. It’s been five years since the initial diagnosis & this one is the same A. L. L. type. We are grateful that the prognosis is good, but the next 6 -8 months will be a battle.

His attitude is inspiring, but this time around, he has a fiancé, Lydia, a daughter Kinsley and a mortgage, so he is very concerned about that. He is supposed to be out of work for a year, but if you know Sam & his work ethic, you know he is already scheming how to get back to his team sooner.

His friends & family have asked how they can help, so this goal was created to help with some of those next 12 mortgage payments.

Sam is at Children’s Minneapolis in an immunotherapy program to start. Plans are being made for a transfer to the U of M bone marrow transplant team in December. It’s a hardship getting through it, but doctors have told us the success, and long-term outlook is very good.

Covid protocols limit visits, but hopefully, Sam will be home for a while later in October.

During the bone marrow transplant in December, Sam's immune system will basically be nil, so doctors request him to live right next to the hospital. Sam and his family will be moving close to the Children's hospital as part of his treatments. They are still planning to keep their home in Big Lake, and mortgage payments still need to be made.
