Aiutiamo Athena ad avere una seconda possibilità

Durante il nostro soggiorno a Creta abbiamo incontrato Athena, una gattina randagia dolcissima che si è avvicinata a noi con occhi pieni di dolcezza, nonostante le sue condizioni fossero molto gravi. Non ce la siamo sentita di lasciarla lì, così ci siamo messi subito in contatto con l’associazione locale Animal Friends of Kissamos, che si occupa di salvare gli animali randagi del territorio, garantendo cure mediche e cercando per loro famiglie amorevoli.

Grazie al loro supporto abbiamo portato Athena dal veterinario, e la diagnosi ci ha spezzato il cuore: un orecchio presenta uno stadio precanceroso, mentre l’altro è già colpito da carcinoma. Entrambe le orecchie dovranno quindi essere amputate per salvarle la vita. La buona notizia è che, intervenendo subito, il veterinario ci ha rassicurati che Athena potrà vivere una vita serena e in salute: il cancro si trova infatti in una zona che può essere completamente rimossa e i casi di recidiva sono rarissimi.

In più, Athena è probabilmente incinta: questo significa che dovrà affrontare una sterilizzazione più complessa e costosa rispetto a una normale.

Quello che è certo è che Athena non tornerà più per strada: è troppo fragile e debole per affrontare ancora quella vita. Con l’aiuto di Animal Friends of Kissamos riceverà tutte le cure necessarie e, una volta ristabilita, sarà inserita in un percorso di adozione per trovare finalmente la famiglia che merita.

Vogliamo darle questa possibilità, ma le spese mediche sono molto alte e da soli non ce la facciamo. Per questo abbiamo aperto questa raccolta fondi.

Help Us Give Athena a Second Chance

While in Crete, we met Athena, a sweet stray cat who approached us with the gentlest eyes despite being in very poor condition. We couldn’t leave her behind, so we immediately reached out to a local rescue association, Animal Friends of Kissamos. They dedicate their work to saving strays, providing them with the medical care they desperately need, and ultimately finding them safe and loving homes.

With their support, we took Athena to the vet — and the diagnosis broke our hearts. One of her ears shows a pre-cancerous stage, while the other is already affected by carcinoma. Both ears will need to be amputated to save her life. The vet reassured us that by acting quickly, Athena can go on to live a healthy and happy life. The cancer is located in an area that can be completely removed, and it is very rare for it to return.

On top of that, Athena is likely pregnant, which means she will also require a more complex and costly sterilization than usual.

What is certain is that Athena will never return to the streets — she is too weak and fragile to survive that life again. With the help of Animal Friends of Kissamos, she will get the treatments she needs and, once fully recovered, she will be placed for adoption to finally find the forever family she deserves.

We want to give Athena this chance, but the medical costs are high, and we can’t do it alone. That’s why we are opening this fundraiser.
