Sálvame de la oscuridad, ayúdame a operarme de la vista

Soy Huma (Daniel) Tatuador e ilustrador, y mi trabajo como mi vida entera esta limitada por mi vista.

A lo largo de mi vida he tenido limitacion por la vista y no había descubierto la gravedad del asunto hasta dedicarme al tatuaje y caer en cuenta que mi progreso en este arte como en muchos otros aspectos de mi vida había sido más lento debido a mi mala vista.

Mi diagnóstico es queratocono, una enfermedad crónica degenerativa que afecta la forma y funcionalidad de mis córneas, que en lugar de ser redondas, se adelgazan y toman forma cónica, y provoca que mi visión se deteriore progresivamente y que con el paso del tiempo representa una pérdida de significativa de la vista, dificultando mi desempeño en el tatuaje que es mi principal forma de ingreso, así como en tareas cotidianas que me generan frustración y desesperación por no poderlas lograr fácilmente, como leer o reconocer a alguien a dos metros de distancia.

La solución es una operación ambulatoria llamada crosslinking que fortalece la córnea y detiene el progreso de la enfermedad, y aunque no es una cura y no restauraría mi vista, es una herramienta crucial para proteger lo que me queda de vista y poder ver los detalles que me estoy perdiendo del mundo.

El objetivo fijado comprende el costo de la operación, que no puedo cubrir por completo sin su ayuda, incluyendo gastos post operstorios y una semana de recuperación en la que no tendría oportunidad ni forma de trabajar

“I am Huma! Tattoo artist and illustrator, and my work, like my entire life, is limited by my vision.

Throughout my life, I’ve faced vision limitations and hadn’t realized the severity of the situation until I started tattooing. I realized that my progress in this art, as well as in many other areas of my life, has been slower due to my poor vision.

My diagnosis is keratoconus, a chronic degenerative condition that affects the shape and functionality of my corneas, which, instead of being round, become thin and take on a conical shape. This causes my vision to deteriorate progressively, and over time it leads to a significant loss of sight, making my work as a tattoo artist, my main source of income, more difficult. It also impacts my daily tasks, causing frustration and despair as I struggle to do simple things like reading or recognizing someone from two meters away.

The solution is an outpatient procedure called crosslinking, which strengthens the cornea and halts the progression of the disease. Although it is not a cure and would not restore my sight, it is a crucial tool to protect what remains of my vision and allow me to see the details I am missing in the world.

The goal is to cover the cost of the surgery, which I cannot fully afford without your help. This includes post-operative expenses and a week of recovery during which I won’t have the opportunity to work.
