Hello!
My name is Salter. I’ve had a zesty gender experience my whole life, as far back as I have conscious memories. Today my language to describe that includes identifying as a masculine-of-center non-binary trans person, and my pronouns are they/them/their.
My experience and process of gender identity development (getting in touch with and living out what feels true and authentic to me around my gender) has felt deeply personal, and in the past few years, I have held that close and been pretty private about it. I’m sharing about it here because I need to ask for help. The next phase of caring for myself through this process involves pursuing top surgery. I’m grateful that my health insurance will pay the cost of the procedure itself. I’m fundraising to cover expenses associated with my recovery from surgery.
I currently work as a dog walker, and my doctor recommends that I take at least a full six weeks away from work to heal. This will be unpaid leave, so the money raised here will help me pay for my rent, utilities, and food bills during this time. For the first week after surgery, I will not be able to do many of the everyday physical tasks I’m used to doing independently as an able-bodied person, so I’ll need someone to provide me with around the clock physical support and care. These funds will also help me to compensate that person for their labor and travel expenses. Lastly, these funds will enable me purchase supports for safely sleeping on my back while I’m healing.
