Salt Clothing ( Formerly Swept Away ) Needs You
For those of you who don’t know me , my name is Robin Baron. I am the owner of Salt Clothing (formerly Swept Away). I started Swept Away with my partner Alan 39 years ago when I was only months away from delivering our daughter, Jenny (whom many of you know as the founder and executive director of Girls Rock Santa Barbara) .
From as far back as I can remember I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit. It started with a jewelry line I designed in my late teens / early twenties that afforded me enough capital to launch my own retail store several years later in Piccadilly Square .
Both Swept Away and Salt have been a home away from home for us , our staff and our loyal customers. We are a family that is 39 years strong. 39 years of business has not been without its ups and downs; we were challenged in 2018 when the Thomas Fire and Montecito Mud Slides shut us down for months, but with the amazing support of our community we were able to find our footing and slowly make our way back. Today I find the fight perhaps one of the biggest fights of my professional career , an unprecedented pandemic . Each day I read the news and my heart breaks for the extreme amount of loss in the world.
I have spent my days applying for loans , only to be told the banks had run out of funds , I have applied and reapplied: PPP , Emergency Disaster , United Way....the list goes on . Meanwhile the bills pile up, rents are still due, and I find myself left with very little options as we move forward. I have lost nearly 7 weeks of business and it is possible this is not financially survivable for us, but we’re not going down without a solid fight.
So here I must do what is so hard for me to do - I must ask you for help. Every single dollar we raise together makes a difference.
Salt is one of the oldest female owned businesses in Santa Barbara today. I humbly ask for your help in weathering this storm.
We have the opportunity to hold each other up and create a new path forward and I know in my heart that we are all stronger together .
