Update 17/01/24
We and Sam cannot thank you enough for your support so far. Sam is having multiple tests this week to check her kidney function and other pre tests required before she can have her CT. Fingers crossed for good news.
Hi! My name is Amanda, and I'm fundraising money for our helper Salome.
Sam (Salome) was a big part of our family for 4 years. She was our Domestic Helper (that means Au Pair or Nanny to those in the US and A/NZ). Ever happy and cheerful, Sam was a delight to have around, and made friends with many of our friends while she was in our employment in Singapore.
Sam alway took care of herself, ate well and exercised to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Unfortunately, none of that prevented something terrible happening to her. At the end of November 2022 she needed to go to A&E for a health problem. Unfortunately after several rounds of ever more alarming diagnosis she was eventually diagnosed with a very aggressive tumour, stage 3C Cervical Cancer. Stage 4 is terminal, stage 3C is the last bus stop before that, so it was very a severe case.
We helped Sam to get through her cancer medical treatment in Singapore - with months of cancer treatment given her odds being 32% of beating it - we all hoped and prayed she could make it through and beat her cancer!
And she did, her diagnosis at the end of treatment was positive, like her attitude, with a good fighting chance that the cancer would remain in remission.
At the end of the treatment in May, she returned back to the Philippines with our full support and some salary to help her get by, to be with her 7yo son to be closer to family. Sam got a job, and continued to be in touch with us from her home in the Philippines.
After initial clean bills of health at 3 and 6 months, unfortunately what luck she had, appears to have run out again. We have just received word that at one of her check ups a cancerous mass has been seen again behind her Uterus.
As she is the sole bread winner for her family we would like to raise money for current / future medical bills and assistance for her family in the future so that she has a shot at a longer life back in the Philippines with her family. Since returning to the Phillipines not only has Sam invested her time in staying healthy and being part of her sons life, she has also become an advocate for Cervical Cancer and attended the "Chong Hua Hospital (Cebu)" Cervical Cancer drive as a cancer "survivor" to help spread the word about what to do for prevention / early detection of cervical cancer.
She is a truly sweet woman, who doesn't deserve the hand of cards that life has dealt her, for that our heart breaks for her. We are looking for kind souls around the world to help lessen the blow and help her financially for her time to come.
