Lebanon Trip To Support Endless Medical Advantage
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Salman and I’m assisting my mum on my first international charity trip to Bekaa valley in Lebanon in June where there are more than 1 million Syrian refugees living in makeshift shelter camps.
I will be supporting Endless Medical Advantage (EMA) which is the only Syrian led mobile health clinic in Lebanon. EMA currently works across the western and central areas of the Bekaa Valley.
The latest estimates suggest that approximately 70% of the Syrian refugees report lack of access to basic healthcare due to financial constraints (UNHCR figures October 2018).
Since EMA was established in October 2018, they have treated over 500 patients in the Bekaa valley. They have also provided health and well-being training to over 300 refugee children in local schools, as well as first aid training sessions within the camps. In a population with limited access to healthcare services, health education and basic first aid skills are essential.
Me and my mum are looking for your support to expand EMA’s public health promotion work, working with both adults and children from the local camps. EMA would like to provide more extensive first aid and basic life support training sessions within the camps, empowering the women of the camps to manage the immediate needs of people with minor illnesses and ailments. These sessions assist the community in the identification and management of acute public health concerns, and provide a more comprehensive and sustainable medical service.
This organisation is founded and presided by Dr Hadia Aslam (a UK based GP from Bradford and Consultant in Refugee health care services), directed by Dr Feras Al Ghadban (a Syrian doctor, currently based in the Beqaa valley, Lebanon), and Ms Raine Astin-Chamberlain from London UK (an emergency department nurse with a specialist interest in relief medicine) to treat the needs of this vulnerable population.
A contribution to this organisation will support the Syrian ground staff in the purchasing of basic medical supplies, medications, maintenance of the mobile clinic vehicle, as well as the provision of professional development training.
Any funds kindly donated to this page will be forwarded to the EMA core team and will be used to finance the running of the project on the ground in Lebanon. This project has been established to deliver front line support in one of the worlds most troubled and disrupted environments. Every contribution will count and help in the effort to restore decent health care provision to a vulnerable population.
I will be celebrating my third birthday with the refugee kids so want us all to remember how fortunate we all are and how many things we take for granted that the refugees cherish. Please donate generously to this good cause.
I will be posting regular updates! Thank you in advance, Salman & Noshi
