Sally Scott's Broken Leg (Medical and Recovery)
Donation protected
Our mom, Sally Scott, had a terrible accident Sunday May 4th and fully shattered her leg after falling down stairs and into the deep end of a pool. Thankfully her head was not hurt and although in tremendous pain she remained conscious and was able to call for help - the neighbors arrived and pulled her out.
An ambulance took Sally to Lexington Medical Center's West Columbia hospital, where doctors determined that she has extensive injuries to her right leg and knee, and she requires at least two surgeries, medications, and extensive physical therapy. Her injury is a "severely comminuted bicondylar fracture of right tibial plateau" which means the upper part of the shinbone where it connects with the knee has broken and fractured into multiple pieces, requiring surgery and extensive rehabilitation.
She underwent one surgery on Tuesday to install an external fixture, the swelling is being monitored for readiness for the second surgery. It has only been a few days and she is still in the early trauma of the accident, and we do not yet know what additional procedures will need to be done or how smoothly the healing will go.
With Sally's consent, we are raising funds for her required medical care and living expenses for the duration of her expected recovery, which doctors estimate is at least 12 months. Sally is a Shipt shopper, regularly bringing grocery deliveries to families all across Lexington. With her leg broken, she will be unable to work (walking, driving, lifting, hauling, bending) and does not have a secondary income. Her living expenses are simple (rent, car payment, insurance, utilities, food). Ideally this fundraiser will contribute to her medical expenses, mobility, accessibility of living (she currently lives up a steep set of stairs), home health aides, etc.
Sally expresses her deepest gratitude to the amazing friends, community, and family who have offered their kind support. Any financial contribution or well wishes are equally appreciated. She has been super brave throughout this terrifying experience and hearing from people brings brightness to her recovery. You can contribute to her directly on Venmo (@Sally-Scott-20) and message her on Facebook - Natural Images Photography .
Thank you to everyone who has shown up for Sally in this stressful and painful time. She is a vivacious, caring and creative woman with a sunny disposition. She loves photography, being on the water, and playing with her grandkid and grandpups. We hope she can fully recover from this accident and be able to do everything she enjoys. Please share this fundraiser with your networks so that we can all support Sally as she heals!
