We are just two Mums, Bridget and Sally, who have been friends for over 40 years with a common need to help others. Bridget met Blessing by accident following a phone call to a church in Africa, when she instead found a softly spoken Blessing on the other end of the line. Blessing, who has never asked for anything from Bridget; just for her friendship and someone to talk to. Over a few months, she shared with Bridget her story and the hardships she endures daily living in the city of Bamenda, in the Anglophone region of Cameroon, where people who speak English are persecuted and face a civil war. It became apparent over a few months of regular communication that she may be able to help Blessing out of her predicament which could save her life by her re-settling in Canada via a travel agency, “CAM TRAV International who for a fee, handle all the travel and job requirements, documentation and visas to Canada and other countries.”
When Blessing was born, her father passed away when she was 2 months old, leaving her Mum and Grandmother to raise her and her siblings. They lived in poverty but were able to source some food from a farm in the village they lived in. Her grandmother died in 2013 and life became even more difficult as her mother suffers from epilepsy and struggled to care for her family. With a little support from extended family, they barely survived. Blessing had to go to Douala to search for a job and became a “live in cleaner” in various homes, some were worse than others and abused her. Life is a constant battle for Blessing. She currently lives in “slum conditions” but has a roof over her head with a very small wage from her cleaning job. We really want to help Blessing out of her situation. She is a kind and sweet soul and has dreams to live a better life where she can support her sick mother.
We both have done all the due diligence making sure Blessing’s story is legitimate. We both speak to her regularly. Unfortunately, we are all too aware of how prevalent scams are currently.
Blessing is a young woman living in dire circumstances with the constant threat of violence to herself and her family. She has some work as a cleaner with a wage that barely covers her living expenses, and she regularly go without food. Raising this money will help us fund Blessing through the process of getting her to Canada where she will have opportunity to move out of poverty and daily fear, a basic human right. The Government of Canada has pledged to welcome 15,000 migrants on a humanitarian basis, resettling the world’s most vulnerable people.
We need your help to raise $9,000, to cover the costs of Blessing’s immigration process and support her family. You can donate online through our GoFundMe page, or by mail or phone. Every dollar counts, and every donation makes a difference. Please join us in helping Blessing escape the violence and poverty in her country and start a new life in Canada. Thank you for your generosity and compassion.”
