Salesian Indigenous Immersion #capeyork2021
Donation protected
For the first time, Salesian College is giving students the chance to travel to the remote Indigenous homelands of the Cape York Peninsula for a 9 day Immersion from Friday 25th June - Sunday 4th July 2021.
23 students from Years 10-12 and 2 staff, Mr Brockhus and Ms Bennett are busy preparing for this experience.
During the Immersion the group will have the rare opportunity to make real connections with Indigenous Australians living on their own land who have maintained a deep connection to their culture and history.
They will learn from Elders and Traditional Owners, and play with young Indigenous children eager for a window to the outside world.
The group will stay in safe areas on privately held Aboriginal land, not accessible outside of this setting. They will learn, make, gather, eat, give, grow and connect with Traditional Owners and Indigenous Australia.
Our students will connect and learn from the custodians of the oldest surviving culture in the world.
They will give their time & passion, and bring back a rich understanding of Indigenous Australia.
Salesian Immersion Mission Project:
An important part of the Immersion is to help create sustainable homelands so that Traditional Owners can live on their ancestral land. Elders will inform Salesian of their vision for their homeland and the type of projects they would like help with. During the Immersion the group will work with Traditional Owners to help make this happen whilst staying on the homeland.
The success of the mission project will be determined by the amount of money the group can fund-raise. To support the mission project we have set a target of $2500.
We are asking members of the Salesian community to support the mission project by making a donation. Any amount, big or small will be appreciated.
We wish our students and staff the very best in their preparations and fundraising efforts. We look forward to hearing all about the trip in early Term 3.
Thank you for your support and donation.
