On Saturday, February 15th, Jim Salerno collapsed suddenly at home while he and his wife Chris prepared for their day. Chris performed CPR until paramedics arrived and Jim was rushed to Overland Park Regional Medical Center and placed in a medically induced coma. Jim was later transferred to KU Medical Center where he spent over a month in the Intensive Care Until. Further testing confirmed that Jim had suffered multiple seizures resulting in irreversible brain damage. The cause of Jim’s collapse remains unknown.

A few weeks ago, Jim was moved to a long-term acute care facility where he receives round the clock nursing care. Jim has begun to make very small improvements and is now opening his eyes in more purposeful response but is not yet considered fully awake. During the pandemic Jim’s family is able to visit only by standing outside his window as visitors are not allowed in.  The strain on this family is unimaginable.

This fund has been set up to support the Salerno family during this difficult time. Money raised will help with medical costs not covered by insurance, and will provide some financial relief to unexpected costs associated with having a loved one in need of indefinite medical care.

Chris, Jim and their daughter Sabrina are grateful for the support and kindness they have received these past few months.
