Sal Vaca Care Fundraiser

On December 31st, 2021, our beloved Sal suffered a massive hemorrhagic stroke in an integral part of his brain. Upon being admitted to the emergency department at a local hospital, his care team described his condition as "very serious" and "life-threatening", as they were concerned that the bleed would expand further within his brain. The medical personnel working on his case decided to admit him into the ICU, where he has been ever since.

Sal has had to endure a significant amount of medical tests and procedures on his healing journey so far. This includes, but is not limited to, the insertion and subsequent removal of a brain catheter, the insertion of tracheostomy and PEG feeding tubes, and numerous CT scans and chest x-rays. He also received respiratory support from a ventilator in the early days of his hospital stay. Sal is a fighter; he has taken several small steps in the positive direction. However, he is not out of the woods just yet.

He continues to undergo several tests, imaging scans, and procedures. He is being observed and taken care of by his team of medical personnel, including his doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and countless other hospital staff members. Sal also receives his strength and the will to continue fighting through the prayers and encouragement of his family, friends, and loved ones.

We (Sal's family) are honored to witness all of the kind words, positive thoughts, and loving care demonstrated by you all during this very challenging time. We are so thankful for your love and continued support! We plan to use the donations we raise towards Sal's care, medically and otherwise, while he continues to heal.
