She Is So Loved.

Regina Bennett is endlessly kind, generous, smart, laugh-out-loud funny, and a total sweetheart. Her heart is full of joy, her head is full of wit and wisdom, and her company fills everyone around her with light. Just four short months ago, in October 2018, Regina finally married the love of her life, Justin Wodicka, in a beautiful ceremony where they declared their love on top of a mountain high up in the Adirondacks.

A better woman could not have fallen on worse times.

In early January at the age of just 31, after a two-week-long headache and a trip to the hospital, Regina was diagnosed with Type 4 Glioblastoma, a rare and aggressive brain cancer. She underwent immediate surgery, and a portion of that tumor was removed. Due to the location of the tumor near the speech and motor control centers of her brain, further surgery is difficult, and so at the time of this writing she is beginning a long road of radiation and chemotherapy treatments. All cancer is bad. But Glioblastoma is very, very bad. And the gravity of her diagnosis makes her needs substantial and immediate.

Brain cancer is evil, and it is arbitrary. While doctors can now point to numerous factors that can lead to an increased likelihood of a person developing lung cancer, or skin cancer, or so many others, it is not so with Glioblastoma. It is just an ugly, cruel, unpredictable thing that only seems to afflict the most vital people.

Brain cancer is also expensive. Treatments, radiation, surgery, chemotherapy, missed work, physical therapy, travel to doctors near and far, and countless other unforeseen expenses add up to a breathtaking cost, and insurance only covers a portion. As determined as she and her husband are, they need help.

To share a bit about Reggie, she crochets brilliantly; her closet is filled with a bright (if cluttered) assortment of scarves, hats, handmade stuffed Cthulhu dolls, and yarn beards. Before her tumor made reading impossible, she was a voracious reader, often pouring through lengthy novels in a single day. She loves history, and has an encyclopedic knowledge of Tudor England. She is obsessed with Game of Thrones and debates constantly with her husband about which book is best and who will survive the final season. She rocks out to David Bowie and Sara Bareilles, stomps her feet to The Punch Brothers, and when she sings Regina Spektor songs in the shower, she sounds like an angel. But more than anything, Regina Bennett is just a good, decent person, deserving of love, and in desperate need of kindness.

Cancer sucks. In this case, it is especially terrifying. Please consider donating and sharing our cause. She is so loved.
