Purpose

This year (2018) will be our fifth (5th) consecutive year of this activity. Our purpose has always been and will continue to be to offer the opportunity to low income children to participate in extreme sports, while sharing the rules of safety and the maneuvers and techniques of the best amateur and professional skaters in Puerto Rico with their families.

This Proposal seeks to collect funds to acquire complete skateboards and essential safety equipment for the practice of this sport. The goal is to acquire 10 complete sets of equipment to be delivered to low-income children of our community of Quebradillas and nearby towns, for the Christmas season.

Description of the Activity

The activity will start with music for the children to meet and make use of the Skatepark. In the park there will be skaters, in designated areas, that will assist the participants in learning new skateboard maneuvers and techniques.

Next, there will be Skateboard, Inlineskate, and BMX competitions. The categories will be divided into Rookies, Females, Open and Masters. The Open category, both male and female, will award cash prizes, with the purpose of attracting advanced competitive skaters. This year in the Female category, we anticipate the participation of female athletes from the State of California. This category will be divided into three levels: Novice (Girls up to 12 years of age), Open, and Quads.

Women's Open Cash Prizes will be as follows:

1st place:              $200

2nd place:            $150

3rd place:             $100

4th place:               $50

                           ---------

Total:                     $500

The families that accompany the children will have an area in the park where they will be able to watch the children practice skateboarding. The park has a kiosk that will sell a variety of refreshments to fund maintaining the facilities.

Finally, a group of professional skaters will demonstrate, for those present, the most extreme and radical maneuvers in order to motivate children to progress further into the sport, should they chose.
