Hi, my name is Ruaidhri Grieve I am a Dominican Friar. A member of the Dominican Community based in Newry in Saint Catherine's Church and Priory. There are six of us in the community of friars or brothers. We serve the local community through preaching the good news of Jesus Christ providing spiritual support with the Sacraments of the Church and a variety of support services to the local community. Much of this is done in our beautiful Church, locally referred to as Saint Catherine's Dominican.
Saint Catherine’s Dominican Church is a cherished landmark and spiritual home for generations of Newry residents. The "Restore St. Catherine's" project aims to raise £1.9m to preserve the architectural integrity and historical significance of the church for future generations. The Church opened in 1875 and is a listed building in need of urgent renovations. Our Prior Fr. Patrick Desmond reminded us "St. Catherine's is more than just a building; it is a repository of our shared history and faith... This restoration is not just about fixing a roof or replacing a window. It's about safeguarding our heritage and ensuring that this sacred space remains a place of worship, solace, and community for the people of Newry for the next 150 years."
