My name is Captain Lexi, I sold everything I owned 4 years ago to go sailing around the world on my 40 foot sailboat named WildChild. Two nights ago, while sailing off the coast of Cape Fear North Carolina, in calm conditions for an overnight passage, a water tornado hit my sailboat in the dark and ripped her to pieces. We called a mayday, and the coast guard came to rescue my crew and I.

 

In ten bad seconds, 20 miles offshore, in the dark at around midnight, I had the scariest experience of my life and lost everything I owned instantly. I escaped the sinking yacht with a ditch bag and said goodbye to everything else. I have no family to turn to, nothing on land at all, I am still far from home without any money or means to get back on my feet. Of course there was no insurance, I had to choose between paying for insurance for the last 2 years or food, food won every time, there is no insurance payout coming. Someone put me up in a hotel for a few days to cry and recover from the shock, but I have to get on my feet fast, and I need help to do it.

 

I need help. Sometimes we all fall, and then we are the ones asking for the kindness of strangers to help us get back up. I had no backup plan for a tornado ripping my boat apart at sea, no contingency plan for this. I literally have nothing; I lost everything in one nasty blast. I need help.
