Sailboat & Me ... Stranded on a Beach
Donation protected
To all the wonderful Samaritans, friends and new friends that have donated to try and help. It now appears that I will not be able to save the wonderful vessel that has been my home for 3 years. The insurance company will be the new owner. I will now be using these funds as a down payment on a replacement vessel. If anyone desires a refund please request one. I'm very sad that my home and vessel will likely be cut up and sold for salvage. Even in the worst of times I maintain my goal of living on the ocean and continuing with my efforts of helping our planets oceans.
Thanks so much everyone for helping in my time of need. I survive on a small disability payment that does not cover very much. Even so my life is truly blessed with so many opportunities to learn more of the amazing life beneath the surface of the ocean. Blessed again with the meeting of so many wonderful people as I travel, and yet again by the spiritual nature of life at sea.
I will continue to post periodic updates on my progress as things go forward.
My name is Mitchell Trice and my rescue cat & I are in need of some true Samaritan spirit.
While en route to Key West, August 18, 2020, my sailboat's engine stopped working and a storm started brewing. The sea was choppy at 4-6 knots and the wind was whipping over 15 mph. The rough current crashlanded me to shore while I was trying in vain to repair my engine. Somehow, perhaps thanks to the grace of God, the boat did not topple over with the rough winds and, miraculously enough, the hull did not hit any local reef and has not sustained any damage.
My home is my sailboat: a 1979 41' Morgan. I did not qualify for Sea-Tow. As you can see from the photos, I am in desperate need of towing assistance so my vessel can be assessed for repair in a safe harbor.
I realize that I am a but a stranger from Alabama, but I am one of the good ones. I am medically disabled due to genetic cardiac issues (rare disorder, aneurysm, and arrhythmias). My declining health recently motivated me to pursue my lifelong dream of helping our planet's oceans. So I joined MISSION BLUE and am an active volunteer engaged in their worldwide oceanic conservation project.
This fundraiser campaign is my friend's way of reaching out to kind people everywhere who might be able to help me on my feet. Please accept my kindest thanks in advance for your prayers and/or donations. I promise to pay them all forward to the next person in need.
/Mitch
