Hello, I'm Hilary and I need your help.
Sage has a neurological disorder due to a birth defect. When I first brought her home she could not walk. The neurologist said at this time there was no surgery that could help her as she’s still growing and there is a chance that she would never be able to walk or run. He suggested daily physical therapy
which I began doing twice a day with her. She can now walk! Impressed by her improvement the neurologist suggested water therapy. I want to continue her path to living her Best Life but need your help. Funds will be used for water therapy assessment, and bi-weekly therapy sessions. She will also need to be spayed next month.
Please help Sage live her best life!
In case you want to know our full story:
While walking at lunch almost two months ago, this puppy came hobbling up to me. She was scared and was dragging her rear legs. I called Animal Control and asked for help. They said her back leg was probably broken and they would take her to a local shelter that would address her leg immediately and share her picture and scan her for a microchip. If an owner was not found I could adopt her six days later. They tried to pick her up and she barked and cried. I asked them to stop and slowly approached her and said' hi sweetheart, I promise I'm never going to let anyone hurt you ever again." She stopped barking and licked my hand and began wagging her tail. I was then able to put a soft leash around her and they were able to pick her up. I gave them my information and they said someone would call me later that day with an update.
After hours of worrying I received the call, they said her leg was not broken that it was a possible birth defect, or the result of an injury. She would need to see a neurologist to determine further care. They said I could come on Saturday and adopt her if I was interested. They said since I"rendered" her I had the first option to adopt her. I then called every day to check on her, we had bonded and I gave her my word.
I then had to try and figure out how I could care for another animal. You see I already have two dogs and a cat. Two days before I was allowed to go to the shelter the technician said she was not doing well, not eating, and hiding in the back of her kennel. I broke out in tears. I just kept thinking how scared she must be.
Saturday I went to the shelter to visit and to try and comfort her and see if she remembered me and if I was making the right decision to add her to my family. The doubt quickly faded when we were waiting in the courtyard and the technician brought her out to us. As soon as she saw me she started wagging her tail. We took her home that day. as she sat on my son's lap in the car on the way home she smiled ear to ear.
I was fortunate that many of my neighbors pitched in to help with the adoption fees and neurological consultation fees. Sage is doing much better now and is truly loved by all her furry siblings. I have been doing physical therapy with her twice a day and she no longer drags her rear legs. She hops now to get around and has become pretty good at it.
Thank you for considering helping us,
Hilary & Sage Gray
