This winter, while Saga Farmann was docked in Civitavecchia, Italy, she was hit by extreme weather. The storm and a power outage caused severe water damage. As the water receded quickly after the flooding, the local caretakers did not notice the extent of the damage. When we traveled down in March to prepare the ship for this year’s expedition, we discovered that the electrical systems had been submerged and that both generators had been destroyed.
In mid-May, Saga Farmann is set to embark on this year’s expedition to London. Along the way, we have several important stops, and both the crew and the public are eagerly awaiting us. To get the ship operational, we need two new generators, four motor controllers, and a complete replacement of all electrical equipment, at a cost of approximately 750,000 NOK. Our insurance company is reluctant to cover these expenses, a decision we strongly disagree with.
Thanks to our sponsors and volunteers, we have received valuable support. Our key technology partners, SeaDrive and Fischer Panda, have ensured the fast delivery of motor controllers and access to two new generators, helping us avoid further delays. However, we still need additional funds to get Saga Farmann ready for this year’s expedition.
Your support makes a difference!
Saga Farmann is more than just a ship – she is a living piece of history, a symbol of Norwegian heritage and community. Every year, she sails historic routes, bringing people from around the world together to experience Viking life. The damage caused by the extreme weather must not stop this incredible voyage.
