It was the 28th November, 2022.
One week before the final school term was officially out.
For most, the weeks to follow would be that ever-consuming whirlwind of social events and festive celebrations that we would share with our friends and loved ones, as we counted down the days to Christmas and the New Year.
For Safija, it was the day her whole world stopped.
That day, Safija sat in the patients chair of her GP’s room, as she was delivered the devasting news of her test results.
Stage 4. Advanced Bowel Cancer.
The following week she celebrated her 41st birthday, fear ridden and confused, as she muscled through her first round of chemo treatment.
Since that day, Safija’s life has revolved around her scheduled fortnightly chemo treatments, and unfortunately… this will be her life, for her foreseeable future.
In the face of this cruel fate, Safija has chosen to continue to fight.
Safija is fiercely independent, a devout mother, and the primary provider and carer to her 7-year-old son, Rocket.
This year will be the hardest and most confronting year of Safija and Rockets life, as she armours up to prepare herself to take on this beast.
Her primary and sole focus has always been for Rocket. His well-being, the pivotal focus for every thought, decision, and action that Safija has had to make. All to win back precious time and support her boy with everything that she’s got.
As her closest friends, it has been so hard to watch her battle over the past 3 months – and to know how best to support her and Rocket. In one sense, it has felt like a torturous lifetime. Yet on another, the days gone, feel like they have been robbed from us.
Watching one of the most kind-hearted, generous, and humble human beings on this planet fight for more time, for a solution, for reprieve - it has been soul destroying.
Despite Safija’s proud objections against us setting up this page, and although we all know that the one thing that Safija is so desperately fighting for is time. Unfortunately, the harsh reality is - time cannot be bought or gifted.
We are, however, hopeful that with the opportunity to pool our efforts together we can help to make Safija’s time magical, lasting, and memorable for both her and Rocket.
We desperately want Safija to explore without compromise any opportunities that may present, to pursue further treatment and engage in the right care and comfort for both her and Rocket.
Most importantly, we just want Fi to enjoy her time with Rocket and fulfill, create, and treasure lasting memories.
The outpour of offers to help has been so humbling and overwhelming, as Safija has had such a positive impact on so many lives throughout her life and journey thus far.
If you could please find it within your heart to share and support Safija’s fight, we will forever be grateful for your kindness and generosity in helping our much-loved friend.
Love always,
Kristy, Shan & Cat
