I’m Nestor, I’m 19 Years old and this coming April I will attempt to become the youngest skipper (as far as I can establish!) to sail around the entirety of the Britain (i.e. not through the caledonian canal).
The purpose of the trip will be to raise £10,000 for the Blue Marine Foundation and the National Independent Lifeboats Association. I will also be raising awareness for these two charities by visiting some of the independent lifeboat stations, as well as some of the newly created marine protected areas.
To make this a success there is lots of safety equipment that needs buying, which is listed below. This is subject to change but will be pretty accurate!
- Spare Tiller pilot £417
- EPIRB rental £210
- ECHOMAX Active-X radar reflector £475
- Spare thermostat £47
- Class B+ AIS Transponder: £483
- VHF Splitter for AIS: £139
- Automatic Bilge pump: £66
- AIS MOB Device: £274
- Spare alternator: £330
Total: £2441
Any additional money will go into the lithium conversion which will allow faster charging, less engine run time, higher capacity, which combined will allow me to spend more nights on anchor, saving marina costs.
- Victron Energy Smart BMS: £175
- Victron energy smart shunt: £73
- 200ah smart lithium battery: £691
- VE. Direct non-inverting remote on/off £17
- Various fuses £27
- Victron Blue Smart IP22 charger £126
Total: £1109
