My heart broke last Friday when my friend's 14-year old daughter attempted suicide. This precious girl is in the hospital and needs inpatient psychiatric treatment, which is not covered by her mom's insurance. In addition, both mom and daughter need a safe environment, as they have been living with domestic violence. Almost losing her daughter is the wake-up call needed to leave this situation, even though she doesn't know how she will afford it. My friend is incredibly strong, and has been working hard to put herself through nursing school. She is 6-months out from being able to work shifts at the hospital and provide for herself and her child. I am humbly asking our amazing community to help a DV survivor bridge the gap and get her and her daughter safe housing and mental health treatment. I know how amazing you are. I know that these two survivors are miracles. And I know that we all need a leg up sometimes. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
