Montserrat’s children deserve to enjoy the St Patrick’s celebrations in a safe, nurturing and joyful environment. This year, for the very first time, we are creating a fully staffed, safeguarding-led Safe Childcare & Youth Hub — and we need your help to make it possible.

My name is Miriam Ekhator, CEO of Catalyst Care, and I have over 20 years’ experience working with children, young people and families, both in the UK and internationally. I am a Designated Safeguarding Lead, paediatric first-aid trained, and have been deeply involved in supporting children’s wellbeing, safety and community engagement.

Last summer, I worked alongside the Montserrat team to help deliver the island’s first large-scale summer camp for children and young people — and it was a huge success. Now, we are going back to support the community again.

What We Are Creating

During the St Patrick’s celebrations, many events run late into the evening, and families often struggle with childcare options. Our Safe Childcare Hub will provide:

• A secure location staffed by trained professionals

• Fun activities for children aged 3–15

• Youth engagement for teens

• Paediatric first-aid trained team members

• Safeguarding procedures aligned with Montserrat’s Multi-Agency Safeguarding Specialist

• A trusted drop-off and pick-up system

• A calm, structured environment so parents can safely enjoy the celebrations

This Hub will operate in partnership with local churches, community centres and island professionals — and will be open to all families, including those who need support the most.

Why We Need Your Support

This project is completely self-funded.

There is no external grant, no government funding, and no large organisation behind us.

• Meals/snacks for children

• Transportation support for local staff

A Personal Note

I recently suffered a traumatic attack at work and have been navigating grief after losing my younger sister without warning. Despite these challenges, my heart remains fully committed to giving back and supporting families.

This project is part of my healing, my purpose and my passion for protecting children wherever I go.
