Safety for Severely sight impaired man..

Hello, my name is Kevin, I'm fundraising in an attempt to raise funds for my own personal safety due to disability.

I've been registered blind/serverly sight impaired for nearly 16 years now.

Recently I've had a few issues with safety while I'm out and about with my white guide cane particularly when on my own due to deterioration.

Independence is extremely important and valuable to me as i know my way around town extremely well, knowing lamdmarks and static indicators showing me where i am and inteent on going, due to intense cane education with a rehabilitation officer.

Recently i tried to use a pedestrian crossing to visit my local supermarket (Waitrose) while out alone, the lights were green in my favour for crossing (using the tactile indicator on the yellow signal box to be secure and safe)

then a vehicle ran the red light last minute as it was a busy Saturday and horseracing in my hometown (Newmarket).

The car proceeded without stopping at all, and I was struck by the wing mirror and thrown back by the vehicle.

this caused brusi ng, physically amd emotionally.

The supermarket didn't have CCTV and I wasn't able to identify or report this incident to the police as a result!

The whole experience, which is not an isolated one, really threw my confidence and affected my independence for weeks.

Now I'm okay and ready to get back out, dust off and keep going, This is mostly due to the supprt of my family and friends and the majority of my community, who are all so amazing.

My abilities are not just a result of my determination not to quit, but also thier support and understanding. It has been suggested that I get a GoPro, laptop and SD cards (which i have assistance to set up and use, update) to protect myself!

By recording these incidents so that I can report and educate people and keep myself safe.

These items are not in my budget due to cost of living and benefits so I'm here to ask for your help. .
