Sadie's Chemotherapy

Donation protected
Hello internet dog lovers. I never thought I’d have to set up one of these things myself but today we had an appointment at the Veterinary Cancer Group in Los Angeles and got final confirmation of some heartbreaking news. Our beautiful Corgi Sadie has lymphoma.

The battery of tests we did today were $2000 alone, which we can afford to pay ourselves, but the treatment is going to cost around $8200, and unfortunately, that is something we just can’t afford at the moment. Without treatment, the oncologist told us that Sadie doesn’t have very much time left with us. A month, maybe two. Lymphoma moves fast, apparently.

However, with treatment, the picture improves considerably. By chance, we caught this early. She’s currently showing no signs of being sick. She’s happy, healthy, active and hungry! All good things. But to increase the likelihood of full remission, and the likelihood of her sticking around longer than a handful of months, we need to start treatment as soon as possible. We’re currently booked in for Tuesday July 14th. One week away.

So here we are. As uncomfortable as it makes me to ask for help, I can’t imagine saying goodbye to her just yet. I’d do anything for that dumb dog. Look at her face for God’s sake.

While I’m hesitant to lean on the kindness of strangers when there’s so much else going on the world that warrants our attention, if I didn’t do this, I know I’d spend the next year beating myself up for not at least trying to give Sadie the best shot at enjoying some more time with her family. That includes our 20-month old boy, Freddie, who is obsessed with her. Though the jury is still out on whether the feeling’s mutual! He usurped a lot of the attention we used to heap on her.

Any donations are massively appreciated and anything that’s left over after Sadie’s treatment will be split between NKLA (No-Kill Los Angeles) and Queen’s Best Stumpy Dog Rescue, who specialize in saving special needs Corgis from California’s high kill shelters.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this.
