Hi, my name is Ingrid Arnold and I'm fundraising for my brother-in-law Wayde James. Our family dog was hit by a car on Saturday. Here is Wayde's story.
My Sadie Grace was hit by a car on Saturday December 2nd. I was in a shopping center parking lot and she pulled free of her collar. She ran across the parking lot to a major road. I followed after her, and when I got to the street I saw her about 60 yards away, lying in the road. There were two women on their hands and knees on each side of her, as well as several other onlookers and cars pulled over. It was one of the worst moments and feelings in my life. I went to her and when I got down on my hands and knees, she raised her head and looked at me. I knew there was hope. With the help of several people, I was able to get her into my truck and take her to an emergency vet clinic. She was taken in and given a thorough exam, blood work, radiographs, IV to get fluids into her and pain meds. She would have to stay overnight. I called several times to check on her.
At first, I was told there were no internal injuries or broken bones, and that I could probably pick her up the following afternoon. I can not describe the relief I felt. Then I got a phone call Sunday morning. Sadie Grace had a fracture. It was the lower right femur and there was a bone fragment in the knee joint. The doctors at the clinic contacted an orthopedic surgeon to look at the films and to get his assessment. Sadie Grace would need surgery. The only other option was amputation. I didn't want to go there. Sadie Grace was my mother's dog. When my mother passed a little over a year ago, I adopted her because I knew I could give her a good home with my other two dogs. Sadie Grace is an 8 year old Treeing Walker Coon Hound. She loves running around in the back yard and going for walks in the woods with my other two girls, Sophia and Nina.
My sister-in-law has set up this GoFundMe account to help cover veterinary care and orthopedic surgery. All totaled, it's going to be about $11K. Sadie Grace has a lot of life in her and is an absolute sweetheart. She deserves to get back on all four paws. I cannot cover this cost. Two years ago I injured my back at work. I have been a carpenter for over 35 years. I started working when I was 11 and have never asked for a handout. My employers, who I worked for for over 13 years, didn't carry Worker's Compensation, even though it was required by law. They were just too cheap, greedy and selfish. They turned their backs on me. It has been a struggle for me ever since. I am working through the courts to try to get back pay through Worker's Compensation, and then disability, as some days, just walking is painful. I am thankful for the support of my brother and sister-in-law. And now all I can do is to reach out to others. I have always had a saying: "The only real currency of any real value in this bankrupt society of ours is the love and kindness we can give other human beings". In this case, it is for Sadie Grace. Thank you for your support and kindness, and may you all have a very blessed holiday season.
