Sade's Dance Film: La Conscience de Tabatha Grace
Donation protected
I am a choreographer and director in the Tacoma/Seattle area. I am receiving my Bachelors of Fine Arts in Acting/Directing with minors in French and Dance in the spring of 2020. Not only has my work been showcased here, but it has also graced the stage of the 5th Avenue Theatre, Village Theatre, and many local community theaters and high schools.
The purpose of this fundraiser is to receive funds for my dance film, La Conscience de Tabatha Grace, that I am producing this January and I am in need of $3,000 to pay for it. This will be a full fledged production including a film and music team with multiple shooting locations. I would use the money for filming, rentals, and material costs. The filmographer alone quoted me at $1,500 for filming and rights to the footage. Studio rentals cost between $275-$450 a day.
The film explores the concept of how gender, orientation, and status influence identity. Identity consists of a wide spectrum of qualities, personality traits, complexities, and beliefs. The way they all interact with each other in combination with personal experiences makes someone’s identity unique to them. The film entitled La Conscience de Tabatha Grace takes that concept and challenges the way the general populous interprets topics that are stigmatized versus accepted. Those topics are rooted in my experience and how my identity plays a part in them. 100% of the material will be original work. All of the choreography, music, and scripted dialogue will be created by PLU students.
It also gives me, and those I am working with, practical experience to learn from and take into the professional world. For example, Taylor Rimer is a music composition major specializing in film scoring. The projects we do together give her many transferable skills to apply to film scoring. Since I want to go into the developmental process of creating new theatrical works, learning how to communicate with a collaborator is incredibly valuable. Collaboration is a foundation to everything that I produce. My slogan, as found on my website, is “Creativity through Collaboration”. One mind is powerful but the combination of other powerful minds generates a product that is diverse, well rounded, and accountable. For this reason, I am bringing in Madison Willis, Duncan Kass, and primarily Taylor Rimer to assist me on this journey. The three of them provide valuable input that enhances my creative process and concept.
Last year, I choreographed a piece called , but why . The process consisted of a collaboration with Rimer, personal and free flowing creative input from the dancers, and artistic interpretation. With a variety of creatives that bring in their own experiences, the piece was able to shape, shift, and develop into a personal yet familiar world. Every choice was made with thoughtful consideration and attention to detail. The piece, from the first idea to the performance, was developed over the course of approximately 8 months. This film is a very similar process and by the time we are finished, it will have been an approximately 9 month process.
It will be showcased in Pacific Lutheran University's Spring Dance Concert April 24th & 25th at 7:30pm.
